Body:Hello BIGGBY Nation!
As BIGGBY Nation gets bigger and the world gets smaller with the world at our fingertips, we wanted to bring to light some important information to know when advertising your store accounts on social media! Social media is a great place to advertise and connect to your local community however there are some key things to be aware when creating posts for your store accounts to ensure you are protecting the brand and most importantly yourself.
You cannot repost photos that you or the Home Office did not produce without permission.
- When in doubt, do not post.
- It is safest to only post photos you get from the Brand Portal, the Home Office or yourself
- This includes photos from other BIGGBY COFFEE locations.
- We have locations that do pay for the artwork that is created by an outside vendor on behalf of those locations. Because of this, it is best to share only using the share button on Facebook and retweet on Twitter.
- For Instagram: Share only photos and videos that you’ve taken or have the right to share.
- As a reminder, you own the content you post on Instagram. Remember to post authentic content, and don’t post anything you’ve copied or collected from the Internet that you don’t have the right to post. Learn more about intellectual property rights.
- How can I make sure the content I post to Instagram doesn't violate copyright law?
- Under Instagram’s Terms of Use and Community Guidelines, you can only post content to Instagram if it doesn’t violate the intellectual property rights of another party. The best way to help make sure that the content you post to Instagram doesn’t violate copyright law is to only post content that you’ve created yourself.
- You might also be able to use someone else’s content on Instagram if you’ve gotten permission (for example, a license), or if your use is covered by fair use or some other exception to copyright. It’s generally a good idea to get permission before posting content, and to get that permission in writing.
- Please note that Instagram can’t help you obtain permission to use copyrighted content.
- Before you post content on Instagram, you may want to ask:
- Did I create all of the content myself?
- Do I have permission to use all of the content included in my post?
- Does my use of the content fall within an exception to copyright infringement?
- Is the content protected by copyright (for example, is it a short phrase, idea or public domain work)
- By saving a photo from another account (BIGGBY or fanatic), google, or anywhere on the web and posting it as your own, you are stating that you are the owner of the photo which could result in legal action towards you if the original creator of the content found it on your page.
- Unrelated BIGGBY COFFEE images: photos that do not have BIGGBY pictured (memes, quotes, community, etc.)
- It is essentially illegal to download photos from the internet (google, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, etc. without consent)
- By finding an image on the internet, downloading it and posting it to your Facebook page, you are stating that you own the rights to that content which is considered someone else’s intellectual property.
- This covers individuals (photographers, artists, designers, etc.) as well as large corporations.
- If you do post an image you found on the internet you could be sued by the creator of that content.
- The Home Office recommends that you do not post images downloaded from the internet and posting them to your Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. as your own.
- This covers individuals (photographers, artists, designers, etc.) as well as large corporations.
We would like to reiterate that the purpose of this post is to bring to light some things you may not have been aware of in an effort to keep our stores safe! If you have any questions regarding social media advertising or anything stated above, please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected]!
All the best,
Erica MacLeod
